本专科由4位角膜病专科医师组成，都在国内外各大眼科中心接受过系统的角膜和眼表疾病的专业培训，有博士2人，硕士2人。专科主任为陈蔚博士，副教授，副主任医师，硕士生导师，哈佛大学SCHEPENS眼科研究所角膜免疫博士后。

      本专科为各种角膜和眼表疾病患者提供专业的咨询、诊断和治疗服务，这些疾病包括：各种微生物引起的角结膜炎、眼化学伤和热烧伤、角膜失代偿、圆锥角膜、角膜变性和营养不良、翼状胬肉、角膜外伤/角膜白斑、干眼症、角膜缘干细胞缺乏综合征等，开展的手术类型有：泪点栓塞术、羊膜移植术、微型角膜刀辅助的光学板层角膜移植术、光学性全厚板层角膜移植术、治疗性板层角膜移植术、光学性穿透角膜移植术、人工角膜移植及联合人工晶体植入和玻璃体切割等多联手术。

     年门诊量10000余人，各种角膜和眼表疾病手术500余例。拥有角膜地形图仪、角膜内皮镜、眼表数字式照相系统、微型角膜刀等最先进的仪器设备。

     2005年12月成立的温州市眼库和温州医学院眼库就设置在本专科。我们的眼库研制了院用的中期保存液，可保存新鲜角膜一周时间，每年向全市输送供体角膜200个，并保存供体巩膜和羊膜等材料。

     本专科参与和主持了多项国家自然科学基金、浙江省自然科学基金、浙江省教委、浙江省留学回国人员基金等资助的重大课题；共发表SCI收录的《Journal of Refractive Surgery》、《Experimental Eye Research》以及国内权威的《中华眼科杂志》等共10余篇论著。

   The Corneal and External Eye Disease Service delivers medical and surgical care to a wide variety of corneal, external eye disease and anterior segment eye disorders including Corneal decompensation, keratoconus, corneal dystrophies, Corneal Trauma/Corneal Scarring, corneal ulcer/microbial keratitis, pterygium, limbal stem cell deficiency syndrome, dry eye syndrome，etc. There are more than 5000 outpatients referred in our service annually, among them, 30% patients coming from other part of the country. The Service is managed by a team of 4 trained corneal subspecialist who were trained by several famous eye institutes both at home and abroad, such as affiliated MEEI and SERI of Harvard Medical School. The surgical modalities performed in this service include amniobic membrane transplantation and auto limbal stem cells transplantation, optical lamellar keratoplasty assisted by microkeratome, therapeutic keratoplasty and optical penetrating keratoplasty, etc. More than 500 surgical procedures are performed at our service annually. The Service also includes the following advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities: corneal topography, specular microscope, digital camera system, microkeratome, etc. We are also actively involved in many basic researches supported by national and provincial grants.
